The most venomous species of viper is the saw-scaled viper Echis carinatus, native to the Indian subcontinent as well as the Middle East and Central Asia. Known to attain lengths of 80 cm long but rarely more than 60 cm, it can inject as much as 12 mg of venom in a single bite, but just 5 mg is considered sufficient to kill an adult human. Its venom yields an LD of only 0.151 mg/kg, making the saw-scaled viper one of the world's top 10 deadliest species of land snake.
