The statue of Maitreya, which stands 18 m (59.06 ft) high, is carved out of a single piece of white sandalwood tree from Nepal. It is located at the Lama Temple (Yonghegong), in the north-east of Beijing. The Imperial Court allowed two years for the carving of the statue and finished the project in 1750.
