Treading the fine line between fun videogame and training simulator, aerospace firm Lockheed Martin’s Prepar3d cost a staggering $499 (£300) when it was launched in April 2011.
The game uses the core code from Microsoft Flight Simulator X but enables a range of more advanced features, including ultra-high-resolution graphics, online multiplayer and even support for submarines with a realistically modelled sea floor. Prepar3d features 45 airports and 39 cities.
