The first videogame world championships, co-sponsored by Twin Galaxies and That's Incredible (USA, ABC), was held in January 1983. The event featured five current titles: Frogger, Millipede, Joust, Super Pac-Man, and Donkey Kong, Jr. This contest continued onward as Twin Galaxies' Coronation Day Tournament.
Ben Gold (USA) became history’s first videogame world champion when he won the North American Video Game Olympics at the Twin Galaxies Intergalactic Scoreboard in Ottumwa, Iowa, USA on 8–9 January 1983. The event was broadcast on America's ABC’s That's Incredible television show on 21 February 1983.
