Innovative funding services such as Kickstarter let developers pitch game ideas not to a few rich investors but to millions of gamers. Paizo Publishing needed funding for its tech demo of free2play MMO Pathfinder Online. It launched a Kickstarter campaign on 9 June 2012 and raised a total of $307,843 (£196,039), making it the most successful MMO Kickstarter campaign to date. The demo will be used to secure private investment.
