The SOEmote system, launched in August 2012 and integrated into EverQuest II (Sony, 2004), uses a player’s webcam to track 64 different points on the human face. It then converts the face’s movements into animation inside the game, allowing players to have their real-life emotions reflected on the faces of their virtual characters.
According to the developers, this facial animation system makes the experience of playing in groups even more immersive.
