The earliest comic-strip character featured in a videogame is Mickey Dugan, aka The Yellow Kid, who debuted in 1895 in “Hogan’s Alley”, a strip created by Richard F Outcault in Joseph Pulitzer's New York World newspaper. The snaggle-toothed tearaway, distinctive in his oversized, bright-yellow nightshirt, was gamified 99 years later in Yellow Kid: Giallo al Circo (Holodream Software, 1994), a side-view adventure game published by Comic Art in DOS format.
Using a basic point-and-click mechanic, the PC game follows Mickey as he traverses New York City looking to raise money to pay for a circus ticket. The Italian title translates as Mystery at the Circus.
