Selling 20.49 million copies worldwide as of 7 July 2017, according to VGChartz, the Dynasty Warriors videogame series (Koei Tecmo) is the most popular multi-platform hack-and-slasher. The first game in the series is a one-on-one weapons-based fighter: however, the rest of the titles in the prolific main series, plus many of its portable games, are all larger-scale hack-and-slashers.
Despite huge sales, Dynasty Warriors is still behind Sony's God of War, which is the best-selling hack-and-slash videogame series overall despite being PlayStation-exclusive.
