Best-selling sci-fi shooter videogame series

Microsoft's flagship sci-fi shooter series, a launch title for the first Xbox console, now comprises six main Halo instalments, and 10 others including spin-offs, remasters and even an arcade game. Microsoft revealed that the series' total sales exceeded 81 million units, and that's not even including the sales figures from Halo: Infinite (343 Industries, 2021). They did, however, state that Halo: Infinite had the biggest launch of any Halo game, and that it garnered at least 20 million players.

This is an increase from the Halo series' previous record, set in 2019, of approximately 65.08 million sales. The games’ success exceeds other space-bound heavyweights including DOOM, Killzone and Half-Life.
