The heaviest standard console controller is the Wii U GamePad, which came bundled with Nintendo’s Wii U console upon its release on 18 November 2012. This enormous controller weighed in at approximately 1.1 pounds (500g), according to Nintendo. The Wii U GamePad was unique in that it created a second window into the videogame world via a 6.2-inch LCD touch screen sandwiched between traditional buttons for gaming and two analog sticks. Adding weight to the GamePad was a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. This heavyweight topped the scales ahead of its closest competitor, the infamous 425g 'Duke' controller for the original Xbox, which was so big Microsoft was forced to release a smaller version in Japan!
