First Twenty20 World Cup cricket match to feature a "super over"
- Who
- Australia, England
- Where
- Saint Kitts and Nevis (Basseterre,)
- When
- 05 May 2010
When Australia met England in a group match at the ICC Women's World Twenty20 in Basseterre, St Kitts, West Indies, on 5 May 2010, both sides were bowled out for 104 runs in their allotted 20 overs. The match went to a "super over", with the team scoring the most runs from that over declared the winner. Batting first, Australia posted six runs for two wickets in their "super over", with England matching that score in their reply. Australia were declared the winners due to the fact that their middle-order batsman Jess Cameron hit the only six of the contest during her 10-ball innings.
This was the first example of a "super over" in a men's or women's Twenty20 World Cup match. The first instance of a "super over" in a men's Twenty20 World Cup match was when Sri Lanka (13-1) beat New Zealand (7-1) at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy, Sri Lanka, on 27 September 2012 - see record ID 80805.
Jess Cameron ran out both Claire Taylor and Sarah Taylor in England's "super over", which restricted England's progress and gave Australia the opportunity to win the match on the number of sixes hit.
