The movie stars Christian Bale (UK) as the titular hero, who protects Gotham City against his deadly foe Bane (played by Tom Hardy, UK). This is the third-highest-grossing opening weekend of all time, beaten only by 3D movies The Avengers (USA, 2012) and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 (USA/UK, 2011).
