Brazilian Terezinha Guilhermina won the women's T11 class 200 metres in a time of 24.67 seconds in Mexico City, Mexico, on 20 April 2012. Guilhermina, who is completely blind, competes in the T11 classification, for athletes with a visual impairment. Guilhermina and her sighted guide, Guilherme Soares de Santana (both Brazil), won 100 metres and 200 metres gold at London 2012, setting a world record in the 100 metres and a new Paralympic record of 24.82 seconds in the 200 metres. For the first time at a Paralympic Games, medals were awarded to both the athletes and their guides in London.
