Elena Lashmanova (Russia) won the women's 20 km race walk in 1 hr 25 min 2 sec at the Olympic Games in London, UK, on 11 August 2012. On her Olympic debut, Lashmanova (b. 9 April 1992) became the youngest medallist in the event since it made its Olympic debut in Sydney, Australia, in 2000. The previous women's 20 km race walk world record of 1 hr 25.08 min was set by Vera Sokolova (Russia) at the Russian Winter Walking Championships in Sochi, Russia, on 26 February 2011. Lashmanova was 20 years 124 days old when she won gold in London. Lashmanova crossed the finish line ahead of fellow Russian and defending Olympic champion Olga Kaniskina.
