A record crowd of 80,203 watched the USA win their third successive Olympic title at Wembley Stadium, London, UK, on 9 August 2012. It was a record attendance for a woman's football match in the UK - eclipsing the 70,584 people who saw Team GB beat Brazil at Wembley Stadium on 31 July 2012 - and also surpassed the Olympic record attendance of 76,481, for the gold medal match between the USA and China at Atlanta 1996 - the year women's football made its debut at the Olympic Games. The USA defeated Japan 2-1 at Wembley on 9 August 2012. Carli Lloyd scored both goals for the USA, after eight and 54 minutes. Yuki Ogimi scored Japan's consolation after 63 minutes. The women's football tournament at the Olympic Games has been won by the USA four times, in 1996 (the year it made its Olympic debut), 2004, 2008 and 2012. Norway took gold in 2000.
