Claressa Shields (USA, b. 17 March 1995) was 17 years 145 days old when she defeated Nadezda Torlopova (Russia) - a boxer more than 16 years her senior - 19 points to 12 in the women's middleweight (75 kg) final at the ExCeL arena in London, UK, on 9 August 2012. Female athletes competed at three weights at London 2012: Flyweight (48-51 kg), Lightweight (56-60 kg) and Middleweight (69-75 kg). Flyweight Nicola Adams (UK), 29, and lightweight Katie Taylor (Ireland), 26, were the other winners on finals day at the ExCel arena on 9 August 2012. Women’s boxing was an exhibition sport at the St Louis Olympic Games in 1904.
