The smallest country (by population) to win an Olympic medal is San Marino with a population of 34,009, when Alessandra Perilli (San Marino) won bronze in the Women's trap shooting, at the 2020 Tokyo games, in Tokyo, Japan, on 29 July 2021.
Not only did Perilli win the Bronze in the individual to win San Marino's first Olympic medal she went on to win silver in mixed team trap shooting on the same Olympic games.
