Kathleen "Kitty" McKane Godfree (UK, 1896-1992) won a record five medals at the Olympic Games. At the Games held in Antwerp, Belgium, in 1920 she took gold in the women's doubles (with Winifred McNair), silver in the mixed doubles (with Maxwell "Max" Woosnam) and bronze in the women's singles, and four years later in Paris, France, she claimed silver in the women's doubles (with Phyllis Covell) and bronze in the women's singles. Six players have won four Olympic tennis medals: Reginald "Reggie" Doherty (UK, 1872-1910), 1900-08; Charles P Dixon (UK, 1873-1939), 1908-12; Gunnar Setterwall (Sweden, 1881-1928), 1908-12; Aránzazu "Arantxa" Sánchez Vicario (Spain), 1992-96; Serena Williams (USA), 2000-12; Venus Williams (USA), 2000-12. Barring retirement, both Serena and Venus Williams will have a chance to match or beat McKane Godfree's medal haul at Rio de Janeiro 2016. Kitty McKane Godfree and husband Leslie are the only married couple ever to win the mixed doubles at Wimbledon. They did so in 1926.
