Canadian equestrian Ian Millar, 65, made his tenth appearance at an Olympic Games when he rode for his country's show jumping team at the London 2012 Olympic Games on 4 August. Millar's first taste of the Olympics came in 1972, aged 25, and he appeared at eight consecutive Games (1984-2012). Before London 2012, Millar shared the record with Austrian sailor Hubert Raudaschl, who appeared at nine consecutive Olympic Games (1964-96). Shooter Afanasijs Kuzmins, who represented the Soviet Union at three Games and Latvia at six Games, extended his number of Olympic appearances to nine at London 2012 (1976-80, 1988-2012). Millar could have had a total of 11 Olympic appearances, including London 2012. He was named in the Canadian equestrian team for Moscow 1980 but missed out when Canada boycotted the Games. Millar, aka "Captain Canada", won an Olympic silver medal in the team jumping event at Beijing 2008 - 36 years after making his Olympic debut.
