The most Olympic road cycling gold medals by a female cyclist is 3, achieved by Leontien van Moorsel (Netherlands) in the 2000 Sydney and the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. The record was equalled by Kristin Armstrong (USA) at the 2008 Beijing, 2012 London, and 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

Leontien van Moorsel won two gold medals in Sydney in the road race and the time trail. Four years later she successfully defended the time trail gold medal to take her tally to three.

Kristin Armstrong is the only female cyclist to win three consecutive gold medals in the time trail event.
