Kenny won the men’s Keirin on 8 August 2021 at the Izu Velodrome in Shizuoka, Japan, to claim his seventh Olympic track cycling medal, moving one beyond his former teammate Chris Hoy. Kenny won three career golds in the team sprint (2008, 2012 and 2016), two in the individual sprint (2012 ad 2016) and two in the Keirin (2016 and 2020). Kenny also won two Olympic silvers for an overall medal tally of nine – also a record for a cyclist.
