At 33 years 118 days old, Dae-Nam Song (South Korea, b. 5 April 1979) won Olympic gold in the men's judo 90-kg category at the ExCeL centre, London, UK, on 1 August 2012 to become the oldest ever winner of a judo discipline at the Olympic Games. Song defeated Asley Gonzalez (Cuba) in the final, with the winning waza-ari score coming courtesy of a throw in the 'golden score' extra-time period.
The previous oldest winner of a judo discipline at the Olympic Games was Xian Dongmei (China, b. 15 September 1975), who was 32 years 330 days old when she won gold in the women's 52 kg category in Beijing, China, on 10 August 2008.
