Bradley Wiggins (UK) capped a memorable summer for British cycling when he eased to victory in the men's time trial at the London Olympic Games on 1 August 2012 - just 10 days after becoming the first British rider to win the Tour de France. Wiggins' time trial win, in 50 min 39 sec, gave him a record seventh Olympic cycling medal (four gold, one silver, two bronze) and he becomes the most decorated British Olympian of all time, eclipsing the medal haul of rower Sir Steve Redgrave. Wiggins dominated the 44-km time trial, beating Tony Martin (Germany) by 42 seconds. Britain's Chris Froome, who helped Wiggins dominate the Tour de France, took the bronze medal, crossing the finish line 1 min 8 sec behind his compatriot. Wiggins' Olympic medal haul eclipses Sir Steve Redgrave, who won six medals (five gold, one bronze) between 1984 and 2000. Wiggins now has four gold medals in three different events from three Olympic Games.
