Valentina Vezzali (Italy) has won a record six gold, one silver and two bronze medals at the Olympic Games. She won gold in the team foil and silver in the individual foil at Atlanta 1996, gold in the individual and team foil at Sydney 2000, gold in the individual foil at Athens 2004, gold in the individual foil and bronze in the team foil at Beijing 2008 and gold in the team foil and bronze in the individual foil at London 2012. Vezzali's two medals at London 2012 take her clear of Giovanni Trillini (Italy), who won eight fencing medals at the Olympic Games between 1992 and 2008. Vezzali's gold medal haul (six) cannot be matched by any other female fencer in Olympic competition (see separate record). Vezzali also holds the record for the most consecutive Olympic gold medals in the individual foil (female), with three wins at Sydney 2000, Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 (record ID 69858).
