According to the journal eLife on 26 July 2016, the shortest women, born in the last part of the 20th century, were those of Guatemala, with an average height of 149.4 cm (4 ft 10.8 in). The shortest men were those from East Timor, with an average height of just under 160 cm (5 ft 3 in).
