The fastest circumnavigation swim around Manhattan Island is 5 hours 34 minutes 58 seconds, achieved by David Olvera (Mexico) on 26 June 2025. The "20 Bridges" swim, which covers 45.9 km (28.5 mi) starting and ending at Mill Rock, was observed and ratified by New York Open Water (NYOW).

This surpassed a mark of 5 hours 41 minutes 48 seconds, set less than a year earlier by Andrew Donaldson (UK) on 19 September 2024.

Olvera set out at 2 a.m. local time and was accompanied by safety kayaker Alex Arévalo for the entire route. As well as strong currents and enjoying the peace and city lights at night, a particularly eventful point was when he had to speed up to get out of the way of the Staten Island Ferry!
