Colo (b. 22 December 1956) was the first ever gorilla born in captivity. A western lowland gorilla (Gorilla gorilla gorilla), she lived at Columbus Zoo in Powell, Ohio, USA, until she died on 17 January 2017 at an impressive age of 60 years 26 days.
"Colo" is named after Columbus, Ohio. Her nicknames included "Granny Pants", "Pretty Girl" and "The Boss". She lived at Columbus Zoo her entire life, and though she spent most of her time in her own enclosure, she was within view of many of her grandchildren.
