Between 1980 and 2012, Meryl Streep (USA, b. Mary Streep) won eight Golden Globe awards, including Best Actress wins for The French Lieutenant’s Woman (1981), The Devil Wears Prada (2006) and The Iron Lady (2011).

Barbra Streisand (USA) has also won eight Golden Globes (1969-84), but in addition to her acting awards, she has also been recognised as a vocalist for A Star is Born (USA, 1976; Best Original Song – Motion Picture) and as the director/co-writer/co-producer/cast member of Yentl (USA, 1983; Best Director – Motion Picture).

Tom Hanks (USA) completes the list of eight-time winners at the Golden Globe Awards, collecting his first statuette in 1989 for Big (USA, 1988; Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy) and his most recent award in 2013, as an executive producer of the TV film Game Change (HBO, USA, 2012), which won Best Television Limited Series, Anthology Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.

Additionally, all three individuals have received the honorary Cecil B DeMille Award (respectively, in 2017, 2000 and 2020).

Julie Andrews (seven), Jane Fonda (seven), Paul Newman (seven), Alan Alda (six), Nicole Kidman (six), Angela Lansbury (six), Shirley MacLaine (six), Jack Nicholson (six) and Oliver Stone (six) have all won multiple awards at the Golden Globes.

Streep was denied a ninth Golden Globe win after picking up a record-extending 33rd nomination on 11 December 2023: Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role on Television, after playing Loretta Durkin in Season Three of the comedy-drama series Only Murders in the Building (Hulu, USA, 2021-). The Crown’s Elizabeth Debicki (as Diana, Princess of Wales) took the honours when the prize was bestowed at the 81st Golden Globe Awards ceremony in Beverly Hills, California, USA, on 7 January 2024.
