The longest pleasure pier railway is at Southend-on-Sea, Essex, UK, and is 1,889.8 m (6,200 ft 1 in) long. Southend-on-Sea's pier is the longest wooden pleasure pier in the world, and built into the structure is a 3-ft gauge railway, comprising a single line 1,889.8 m long with a passing loop. The current equipment dates from 1986 and consists of two trains of diesel hydraulic stock, named 'Sir John Betjeman' and 'Sir William Heygate'.
