Erling Kagge and Børge Ousland (both Norway) reached the North Pole on 4 May 1990 after a 58-day journey on skis. A third member of their expedition, Geir Randby (Norway), fell and injured himself during the trek. He was taken back to Norway by plane.
The trip began from Ellesmere Island, Canada. Kagge and Ousland had no re-supplies during the trip, even when an aeroplane picked up their injured colleague Randby.
