In 1955, “Rock Around the Clock”, the only single to return to the top 20 on five separate occasions, became the UK’s first million-selling single. Bill Haley’s (USA, 1925-81) “anthem for rebellious Fifties youth” spent three weeks at No.1 in November and December 1955 and a further two weeks atop the chart in January 1956.
