Based on the Challenger Main Battle Tank (MBT), the heaviest armoured vehicle currently in service is the Titan, a British Bridge Laying System that can carry one 26-m-long (85-ft) bridge, or two 12-m-long (39-ft) bridges, to provide access for tanks across water or difficult terrain. The vehicle operates the fastest such system in the world, able to launch or lay a 26-m bridge within two minutes of arriving at a site, and 12-m bridges within 90 seconds. Its armour enables the Titan to operate in a hostile environment, while remote-controlled CCTVs help with placing and positioning the bridge and assist with night-time operations. When equipped with a bulldozer blade (to help clear away material) it is the biggest and heaviest armoured vehicle in service, with an estimated weight of 62,500 kg (137,790 lb) and a road speed of 59 km/h (36.5 mi/h). The British Army has 33 Titans, the final unit being delivered in 2008.
