Launched on 1 August 1981, the first music video aired on the Music Television network (based in New York City, USA) was the appropriately titled “Video Killed the Radio Star”, a UK No.1 for The Buggles (UK duo Geoff Downes and Trevor Horn) in 1979. The first video seen on MTV Europe, launched on 1 August 1987, was “Money for Nothing” by Dire Straits (UK), which topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 1985. The track starts and ends with the lyric “I want my MTV”.
