Having successfully demonstrated a remotely controlled, unmanned resupply helicopter to the US Marine Corps in January 2010, the US 2nd Marine Air Wing used a Kaman K-Max on 17 December 2011 to make the first, unmanned helicopter cargo delivery to troops on a battlefield. Around 3,500 pounds of freight were moved from Camp Dwyer to Combat Outpost Payne in Afghanistan in about one hand a half hours.
