The elephant with the longest tusks relative to its body size was a fairly short-legged prehistoric gomphothere known as Anancus, which lived in the jungles of Eurasia from the late Miocene Epoch to the early Pleistocene Epoch, 3–1.5 million years ago. Each of its long straight tusks (of which it possessed just a single pair) measured up to 4 m – which is almost equal to this creature's total body length!
