The longest beetle with enlarged jaws is the giant sawyer beetle Macrodontia cervicornis, which is native to northern Venezuela and the Amazon basin, as well as eastern Brazil. Approximately a third of this beetle's entire length in male specimens is accounted for by its huge jaws, edged with tooth-like serrations. The largest specimen on record had a total length of 17.7 cm (7 in), and was collected in Peru in 2007.
