Adele Adkins) became the first solo female to register two million-selling albums in the UK in a calendar year. 21 sold 3,772,346 copies and the singer-songwriter’s 2008 debut release, 19, amassed sales of 1,207,600. Both albums were among the UK’s top five sellers of 2011 – a first for a female solo artist.
