On 3 December 2011, Adele’s (UK, b. Adele Adkins) 21 registered an unprecedented 39th consecutive week in the top five of the US albums chart (the Billboard 200) since its No.1 debut on 12 March 2011. 21’s record-breaking run eclipsed the unbroken 38-week top five stay of Michael Jackson’s Bad, which debuted at No.1 on 27 September 1987. 21’s top five run ended the week after setting the record when it dropped to No.7 on 10 December 2011.
