When “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” followed “California Gurls”, “Teenage Dream”, “Firework” and “E.T.” to the singles chart summit in August 2011, it gave singer Katy Perry (USA, b. Katheryn Hudson) a fifth chart-topper from her No.1 album Teenage Dream. Perry is the only female to achieve as many as five No.1s from one album, and only the second artist in the history of the US singles chart to do so after Michael Jackson (USA, b. 29 August 1958, d. 25 June 2009), who notched up five No.1s - “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You”, “Bad”, “The Way You Make Me Feel”, “Man in the Mirror” and “Dirty Diana” - from his 1987 album Bad. Perry’s chart dominance shattered the record for most consecutive weeks in the top 10 of the singles chart (US) - 66 weeks, dating back to the arrival of “California Gurls” on 29 May 2010. The previous record of 48 consecutive weeks was set by Swedish group Ace of Base in 1993-94.
