The oldest independent railway company is the Festiniog Railway in Wales, which was founded by act of Parliament on 23 May 1832, and is still operating today.
Founded by an act of Parliament on 23 May 1832, the Festiniog Railway is still operational today running tourist trains along the 23.5 in (597 cm) narrow gauge tracks between Porthmadog and Blaenau Ffestiniog, a distance of 13.5 miles (21.6 kms). The company also owns and operates the 25 mile Welsh Highland Railway between Caernarfon and Porthmadog, where it connects with the FR.
