The newest example of a purple cow or bull on record is a young male calf whose existence was made public on 17 January 2012 when documented in media reports worldwide. Born in Jezdina – a small mountain village close to the Serbian city of Čačak – it is lilac and white in colour. On account of this, its owner, farmer Radojka Glavonjić, is considering naming it Milkan, after the purple cow emblem of Milka Chocolate. Its very unusual colouration is believed to be genetic in origin, but no precise explanation has so far been put forward by scientists. Only one previous case is currently known – an adult purple cow discovered in Florida in 1948.
