The highest altitude achieved on a tandem paraglide is approximately 8,878 m (29,127 ft) by Sano Babu Sunuwar and Lakpa Sherpa (both Nepal), who lifted off from the summit of Everest on 21 May 2011. They then travelled 31 km (19 miles) around Nuptse before landing safely in Namche Bazaar, Nepal.

This was Sano Babu's first experience of climbing a high mountain, and Lakpa's first experience of a high paraglide flight. They were both recognized as National Geographic Adventurers of the Year 2012.
