The longest-lived species of lynx is the bobcat or red lynx Lynx rufus. Ranging southwards from southern Canada through much of the continental USA into northern Mexico, it is smaller than the Canada lynx L. canadensis with which it shares part of its range, but it lives longer, with a maximum recorded longevity of 32.3 years against the Canada lynx's 26.8 years.
