The breed of goat with the shortest ears is the LaMancha, first bred in Oregon, USA, of which there are two types in terms of ear size. The ear lobes of those with so-called gopher ears are either non-existent or measure no more than 2.54 cm at most and contain little or no cartilage, whereas those with elf ears measure 5.08 cm at most. As neither, therefore, has normal outer ear lobes, on first sight LaMancha goats often appear to be earless.
