France currently operates six Rubis-class submarines which have a length of 73.6 m and a displacement of 2,600 tons while submerged. They are powered by a 48 MW K48 pressurized water nuclear reactor. They have unlimited range and were designed to have an operational lifetime of around 25 years. They are due to be replaced by the Barracuda class, of which the first is expected to be delivered to the French navy in 2016.
