The largest Menger sponge measures 1.9 m (6 ft 2 in) in diameter, and was achieved by Brombacher and Associates (South Africa) in Cape Town, South Africa, on 10 May 2019.
The attempt took place at the Zeitz Museum in Cape Town, South Africa. It is a Level 3 Menger sponge. It took 45 school students, 15 university students and two project managers to build the geometric object. It consists of 18,048 die cut tabbed cardboard squares and 36,096 rubber bands.
