White chocolate was first introduced by Nestlé in 1930, and marketed in Switzerland under the name “Galak”. The white chocolate bar was gradually introduced in other countries under an assortment of names, including Milky Bar and Alpine White.
A number of food agencies refuse to recognise white chocolate as chocolate, categorising it instead as a derivative of cocoa. Like milk chocolate, it is created using cocoa butter, milk and sugar but crucially contains no cocoa solids.
