The species displaying the most varied diet currently documented for any shark is the tiger shark Galeocerdo cuvier. Sometimes exceeding 5 m (16 ft 5 in) long, this savage predator has been nicknamed the 'garbage-can shark', because it will eat almost anything. Confirmed prey animals include seals, dolphins, any domestic animal that falls into the water (e.g. dogs, cattle, rats, chickens), seabirds such as cormorants, frigate birds, and pelicans, reptiles including marine turtles, sea snakes, and Galapagos marine iguanas, a vast range of bony fishes, other sharks, and all manner of invertebrates, including lobsters, octopuses, and crabs.
