The KitKat is the chocolate bar with greatest number of flavour variants. To date, the standard four-finger KitKat has been available in over 120 flavours, including cucumber, wasabi, watermelon and salt, and, of course, milk chocolate. The KitKat began life in York, England in 1935 as the Chocolate Crisp, “a snack that a man can take to work in his pack up [lunchbox]”. It is especially popular in Japan where by fortuitous coincidence its name is a sound-alike of the abbreviation for “Kitto Katsu”, the Japanese for “Good luck”. Parents and friends often make gifts of a bar of KitKat to students about to take exams, although those expected to fail sometimes receive a KitKat with all but one piece removed.
