• This edition is dedicated to Norris McWhirter (1925-2004). On 20 April 2004, the co-founder of Guinness World Records passed suddenly in his Kington Langley home, following a heart attack; he was 78.
  Following the assassination of his twin brother and co-editor in 1975, for a decade Norris carried on as Guinness World Records' sole editor. Although he retired in 1985, he continued to support the publication in an advisory role until 1996.
